Get to it

A guide to help make your day

Going out

Sauerkraut Festival: Admit it, you've always wanted to try sauerkraut cream pie for breakfast, now haven't you? This is the place: The Ohio Sauerkraut Festival continues 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today in downtown Waynesville. Plenty of crafts too, because, well, you can never have too much country charm around the house. (513) 897-8855.

Moscow Nights: They'll be duded up in their Dayvear, so to speak, when the award-winning folk ensemble from Russia kicks up its boot heels with a long list of Russian folk favorites, ranging from lyrical suites to pulsating dance numbers. 2 p.m. today, Main Public Library, 800 Vine St., downtown. 369-6970.

Art opening: Celebrating its 125th anniversary, the Skirball Museum of Hebrew Union College opens Living in the Moment: Contemporary Artists Celebrate Jewish Time with 100 national and international artists showing Jewish ceremonial art focusing on a Judaic conception of time. Opening reception is 3-5 p.m. today, 3101 Clifton Ave., Clifton with, drumroll please, music by Cincinnati Klezmer Trio,. 221-1875, Ext. 358.

Rhonda Vincent: Catch her on her way to the top. She's one of the bluegrass world's fastest rising stars, and she's making her Cincinnati debut. Well, Newport debut at least. 8 p.m. today Southgate House, 24 E. Third St., Newport. $10-$12. 779-9462.

        Staying In

TV picks: It's a different kind of Barbara Walters special: Biography (8 p.m., A&E) devotes two hours to the veteran news anchor, with comments by Henry Kissinger, Hugh Downs, Roone Arledge, Ted Koppel, Monica Lewinsky and former boss William Safire.

        • TV Critic John Kiesewetter says CBS' Touched by an Angel fans may not recognize Roma Downey in the season premiere (8 p.m., Channels 12, 7) after her cosmetic surgery.

The Goods (What's in stores today)

12 Days of Harry: Kurt S. Adler, the ornaments and collectibles company, has pumped out its Harry Potter holiday collection (like you're surprised or something?) of stockings, stocking holders, light sets, light covers, table accessories and ornaments in resin, glass, tin, fabric, wood and decoupage. Harry and friends (and enemies) Hermoine, Ron, Hagrid, Dumbledore, Snape, Norbert, Scabbers and Hedwig show up in the merchandise. Available at gift, specialty and department stores, starting at $5. For info, check www.kurtadler.com or call (800) 243-9627.

Planning Ahead

24 hours out: What you get here is a mix of itchy ska (not a skin disease), skunky funk (not a form of diaper rash), and slippery rhymes when L.A.-based Fishbone bring their high-energy act to Bogart's in Corryville. That's after opening acts the Urge and Primitive Reasonget the crowd warmed up. 8 p.m. Monday. $12.50-$14. 562-4949.

48 hours out: This will require at least a salute: Retired General Colin L. Powell, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, shares a thought or two at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Miami University's Millett Hall. His “Challenges of a Changing World” is free and open to the public. (513) 529-4221.

72 hours 'til Wednesday: Oh what a tangled web and all that when Ensemble Theatre opens the long-running Off-Broadway hit The Countess. That's the sizzler about the true-life love triangle involving art critic John Ruskin, his wife and Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais. 8 p.m., ETC, 1127 Vine St., Over-the-Rhine. $25. 421-3555.
