Police chief's son arrested

The Associated Press

DAYTON, Ohio — The son of Dayton's interim police chief and two other men were charged in the robbery of two Nebraska men, Montgomery County sheriff's deputies said.

Joel Thomas, 21, the son of interim police Chief John Thomas, surrendered to authorities Monday and was arraigned Tuesday in Vandalia Municipal Court on a charge of aggravated robbery. Bond was set at $100,000.

Charles O. Trussell Jr., 24, of Vandalia, and Jack C. Elson, 22, of Dayton, also were charged with aggravated robbery, and a grand jury is considering adding more charges because the victims were beaten.

The trio is accused of beating Raymond Evans, 28, and Craig Clare, 26, both of Grand Island, Neb. after the two refused to turn over money late Thursday.
