OWENSBORO, Ky. Lynne Cheney, the wife of Republican vice presidential candidate Dick Cheney, read a book titled I Want to be President to children at Newton Parrish Elementary School on Friday during a stop in this western Kentucky town.
"Kentucky is important, Mrs. Cheney said, "and I'm here at school because I like to go to schools. (George W.) Bush cares very much about education.
Mrs. Cheney's visit included a trip to the Daniel Pitino Shelter.
"Even though we feel optimistic, it is close, Mrs. Cheney told Republican supporters at the school. "It will be determined by getting out the vote.
"Do you hope that your husband is elected? one student asked.
"I do that every day, Mrs. Cheney said.
