Mumme gives self failing grade for 2-6 Kentucky
The Associated Press
LEXINGTON Kentucky Coach Hal Mumme says his players shouldn't be forced to shoulder all the blame for the Wildcats' disappointing five-game losing streak.
If I had to give myself a grade, I'd flunk, Mumme said Monday. I'd give myself an "F' because we've failed to win enough games.
Kentucky (2-6, 0-5 Southeastern Conference) has had a week off to regroup and prepare for its second consecutive ranked opponent No. 18 Mississippi State (5-2, 2-2).
We're all disappointed with our record, but I think all of our young guys realize that with a few plays going our way we'd be 5-3 rather than 2-6, Mumme said.
Since a 41-34 victory over Indiana Sept. 16, the Wildcats have fallen to Florida, Mississippi, South Carolina, LSU and Georgia by a combined score of 182-95.
Mumme said redshirt freshman quarterback Jared Lorenzen (Highlands) has had no problems with the thumb on his throwing hand, which he sprained two days before a 34-30 to Georgia Oct. 21. Lorenzen completed 39 of 58 passes for a school-record 528 yards.
Jared seems to be fine throwing the ball, Mumme said.
