Lieutenant governor's son arrested

The Associated Press

ATHENS, Ohio — A son of Lt. Gov. Maureen O'Connor was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, authorities said.

Alex Kipp, 21, of Akron had 0.7 grams of cocaine in a plastic bag in his backpack, police said in a complaint filed in Athens County Municipal Court. He was arrested Friday night during a traffic stop.

Mr. Kipp's attorney, Thomas Hodson, said the maximum penal ty on the charge is a year in prison, but sentences are usually shorter than that. Mr. Hodson said Mr. Kipp was released on a recognizance bond pending a preliminary hearing Nov. 7.

Ms. O'Connor is a former Summit County prosecutor who also runs the Ohio Department of Public Safety. “I love and support my son,” she said in a statement. “We will work through this together as a family.”
