Ohio State Patrol fires assistant area commander
The Associated Press
FINDLAY, Ohio The assistant commander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Findlay district has been fired for falsifying documents about the number of arrests he made and other violations.
Lt. Timothy Hubbell, a 17-year-employee, was fired Oct. 17, Sgt. Gary Lewis said Tuesday.
Patrol documents show Lt. Hubbell claimed he made 102 arrests in 1999, but only 36 could be documented. In 2000, he claimed 17 arrests when only one could be documented.
Documents also show Lt. Hubbell claimed he performed 18 audits of records showing how staff spent their time when he did none. He also did not conduct audits of lockers containing evidence as he said he had.
Lt. Hubbell also was accused of using his patrol car to transport his children and using his office computer for nonbusiness activities.
He had been on disability leave because of a medical condition.
The patrol started the investigation Sept. 7 based on allegations made by another employee, Sgt. Lewis said.
Lt. Hubbell was commander of the Lima post before being appointed assistant commander of the Findlay office, which oversees six patrol posts in northwest Ohio.
There is no phone listing for Lt. Hubbell in the Findlay area.
