This pig turned into two pigs, and then became triplets. The first one is the only pig to be auctioned so far, for $9,000.
Artist: Lynn Judd, Loveland, is a painter of equine portraits who did nine pigs, including Pigliacci, Pigasus, Orange Barrow, Pig Red Machine, Hamlich Maneuver and the yet to be completed Stephen Birmingham. The Stephen Birmingham, designed as a 1950s debutante pig, won't be done in time to be displayed. It is being auctioned on eBay through Thursday.
Sponsor: Equine Swine I, the Carl H. Lindner Jumping Classic, Equine Swine II & III, Melody Sawyer Richardson.
This pig's pen: Equine Swine II and III were at Fourth and Main. They are in storage awaiting auction. Swine II will be auctioned on eBay, today-next Friday. Swine III will be auctioned at Music Hall, Nov. 13.
You were inspired by: I did the first Equine Swine for the Carl H. Lindner Jumping Classic in August, and it was auctioned there to benefit the Shriner's Burns Hospital. A woman in Texas who imports Belgian hogs bought it for $9,000. So I was asked to do another one, just like it for the Big Pig Gig. Then I was asked to do a third, this time in a hunting outfit.
What's the pig idea? Equine Swine I and II are in hunting outfits, with scarlet coats and the blue collars and black tie of the American Olympic team. The third pig is dressed in the colors of the Camargo Hunt Club, with a gray collar with yellow piping and a white ascot.
Completing the project took: A hysterical two weeks to get the first one ready for the Jumping Classic. The other two went faster because I already had the concept.
Your high on the hog was: These all had to be done in a hurry so I had a lot of the preparation work done by the Glass Hand. They bent over backward to help me.
Pig peeve: Doing nine pigs. My painting commissions are beginning to pile up.
Best pig tale: I put the first Equine Swine by my fence, and my horses were terrified of it.
My favorite pork dish: Baby back ribs.
The materials cost: About $600 per pig.
Do you consider this art or porkography? A type of pop art.
If your pig starred in a movie, who would you cast to play the role? Robert Redford, (the Horse Whisperer) and Robert Redford and Robert Redford.
