Man sentenced for luring girl through Internet

The Associated Press

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — A man was sentenced to more than 12 1/2 years in prison Friday for taking a teen-age girl he met through an Internet chat room to Missouri so he could have sex with her.

George Wayne Scott, 45, of Camdenton, Mo., also was sentenced in U.S. District Court to three years of supervised release and forced to give up his van and computer equipment.

Mr. Scott had pleaded guilty to six charges, including transporting a 14-year-old girl from Maple Heights, a Cleveland suburb, to Missouri so they could have consensual sex.

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dismissed a kidnapping count and a charge that he also tried to lure a 15-year-old girl from Clinton, S.C., to Missouri to have sex with her.

The FBI said Mr. Scott and the 14-year-old girl had been talking through an Internet chat room for about two weeks when he traveled to Cleveland to talk her into leaving. The two left together Oct. 26, 1999, when Mr. Scott picked her up at her high school.

Mr. Scott was arrested two days later walking near his apartment in Camdenton. Prosecutors said the girl was not harmed.
