Get to It

A guide to help make your day

GOING OUT
Southern Culture on the Skids: Wow, it's a double dose: Listen to music and dodge flying fried chicken. That's the deal when the band that made a name with antics — like flinging fried chicken into the audience — and rowdy music comes trailer-trashing in to town. 8 p.m. today, Newport's Southgate House, 24 E. Third St. $14. 779-9462.

Antiques: Antique shoppers — maybe we should say shoppers looking for antiques, 'cause we don't mean to call anyone an antique — should head to Moeller High School where 135 dealers have everything from lamps to jewelry and quilts. Noon-5 p.m. today, 9001 Montgomery Road, Kenwood. 481-2977.

Voicebox: The-oh-so versatile a capella voices debut a new version of “Time After Time” in a concert celebrating the human lifespan. Everything from 16th century motets to Jewish folk songs to Cyndi Lauper get the treatment. 7 p.m. today, Cincinnati Art Museum. $20 includes European Masterpieces admission. 721-2787.

Sunday dinner: Grailville Farm's organic gardeners dish up Sunday dinner with such tasties as roast loin of pork rosemary with rhubarb-orange marmalade and boneless chicken breast with cranberry lemon-sauce. Seatings 5 and 6:30 p.m. today, 932 O'Bannonville Road, Loveland. $12, $5 children. 683-2340.

Staying In
TV picks: Finally! Fox's Sunday night lineup arrives with Springfield in an uproar over being split into two area codes on The Simpsons (8 p.m., Channels 19, 45); a traffic jam fraying nerves on Malcolm in the Middle (8:30 p.m.); and new Agent John Doggett (Robert Patrick) on The X-Files (9 p.m.).

        • TV Critic John Kiesewetter says Al Gore and George W. Bush have taped new comedy bits for the Saturday Night Live Presidential Bash 2000 special of SNL's best political satires (9-11 p.m., Channels 5, 22).

Web site of the day

Buggy chow: Planning your Thanksgiving menu? Imagine the joy and delight of your guests when you dump the turkey this year and serve up a nice platter full of, say, fried mealworm. Or fried grasshopper with an ant pupae garnish. “Eating insects is becoming more and more popular in Western cultures,” this here Web site tells us. Check out the trend and get some recipes at www.hollowtop.com.

Planning Ahead

24 hours out: Got an over-active Martha Stewart gene you need to placate? Fine. Get yourself a jump start on ideas for holiday centerpieces and wreaths. Homemade, of course. The staff of White Oak Garden Center will show you how. 7 p.m. Monday, West Fork Branch Library, 3825 West Fork Road, Monfort Heights. 369-4472.

48 hours out: Inspirational author Dave Pelzer (A Child Called It, The Lost Boy, A Man Named Dave) whacks away at the heart strings and introduces his latest: Help Yourself, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Borders Books and Music Tri-County, 11711 Princeton Pike, Springdale. 671-5852.

72 hours 'til Wednesday: British pop trio BB Mak brings its slightly off-center blend of rock and soul to Bogart's, 2621 Vine St., Corryville. $18.50-$20. 562-4949.
