Ben Sloan is the youngest artist in the Big Pig Gig.
Artists: Ben Sloan, 11, and Matt Kotlarczyk, Norwood. Ben, a student at Yavneh Day School, is the son of ArtWorks director Tamara Harkavy. His co-artist is his stepfather, who also created Sparkling Swine.
Sponsor: The Harkavy Family.
This pig's pen: The pig was on Fountain Square. It is no longer on display. It will be in the Live Auction at Music Hall, Nov. 13.
You were inspired by: I did a lot of drawings of this pig. My mom thought it was a good idea. She decided that we would do it, and my step-dad Matt helped me do it.
What's the pig idea? It's a flying carpet pig. It looks like Aladdin. It's on a carpet that's a lot of different vibrant colors. It's wearing a vest and a turban with feathers and a ruby on it. It has a tattoo on it's butt that means kosher in Hebrew. On the carpet there are Hebrew words like all of our names. It's got a sword, a scimitar.
Completing the project took: About three weeks.
What's the matter?: We watched the Aladdin movie three times. We had the Glass Hand make the carpet and all.
Your high on the hog was: This was the first time I did a big painting project like that, and I learned a lot of things. It was fun learning how to do it.
Pig peeve: I didn't like doing the base coats. I liked doing the design.
My favorite pork dish: Actually I do eat pork. I like my dad's ribs, the ones he cooks, I mean.
What artistic movement most affected the outcome of this pig? The Aladdin movie.
If your pig starred in a movie, who would you cast to play the role? Aladdin.
