Boone replaces property valuation administrator
By Ray Schaefer

The new Boone County property valuation administrator figures his credibility won the race.
Florence Republican Ron Burch defeated Hebron Democrat Paula Goff, whom Gov. Paul Patton appointed in January to replace former PVA David Turner. Mr. Burch had 59 percent of the vote with 17,171 votes to Ms Goff's 40.8 percent with 11,871.
I appreciated they voted me in, Mr. Burch said. I'm humbled by that. I plan to bring the office up to date and staff it properly.
Ms. Goff wouldn't cite Republicans who've recently moved to Boone County as the reason she lost, but she did say the county has changed a lot.
We're not the small rural county we used to be, Ms. Goff said. We're fortunate to be a prosperous county. The Republicans have gained a lot of ground; you've got to give them credit.
What can you say? We did everything we knew to do, and they won.
The PVA's office sets property values in the county for the purpose of taxation.
Boone County Democratic Party Chairwoman Phyllis Jones said losing the PVA race was tough to take.
Paula had straightened the PVA office out, Ms. Jones said. She had the experience and the know-how. Now someone comes in who doesn't know the office. That saddens me.
Mr. Burch was not sure whether credibility was an issue.
All we did was run a credible campaign, Mr. Burch said. We never went negative.
