HAMILTON — Voters passed a 2-mill replacement levy Tuesday that will increase the Butler County Board of Mental Retardation's revenues.

The levy passed 74,377 votes to 51,468, with all 280 precincts counted, according to unofficial results.

A 2-mill levy based on today's higher property values will generate an additional $3.9 million per year.

        In Hamilton, amendments that would:

        • Update the city's 1926 charter by amending it and its supplements in their entirety narrowly passed 51 percent to 49 percent.

        • Increase the mayor and city council salary was soundly defeated 12,584 votes to 6,170. Council's salary would increase to $5,000 from $300, and the mayor's from $10,200 to $15,000.

In Middletown, there were six charter issues. Among them:

        • Permit the City Com mission to conduct closed sessions to discuss economic development issues when confidential business plans or business strategies would be disclosed. It failed. The tally: 10,661 votes opposed, 3,800 for.

        • Increase pay for City Commission members to $7,500 annually, from the current $5,000. The tally: 12,584 votes opposed, 6,170 for.
