Furmon, Fox hold commission seats
By Steve Kemme
The Cincinnati Enquirer
HAMILTON Republicans Mike Fox and Chuck Furmon breezed to victories Tuesday's election and held on to their Butler County Commission seats.
The election of the two commissioners continues the GOP's long-time monopoly of the county's three commissioner posts. The third commissioner, Courtney Combs did not face election this year.
Mr. Furmon, who was running for his second full term as commissioner, defeated one of Butler County's most prominent Democrats, Catherine Stoker, a West Chester Township trustee, 70,622 to 50,962.
Mr. Fox thrashed Democrat Terry Bridge, a Hamilton sportswear store owner who has never held public office, 78,317 to 43,937.
Mr. Fox, a state representative for 22 years, was appointed to the late Janet Clemmons' commission seat in October 1997 and successfully ran for the office in November 1998.
He led an effort to reform Butler County Children Services and, as a state representative and a county commissioner, pushed for construction of the 11-mile highway linking Interstate 75 and Hamilton.
Because of his years of work on this project, the road was named the Michael A. Fox Highway.
A former Hamilton mayor and a retired Hamilton police lieutenant, Mr. Furmon is president of the board of commissioners this year.
