COLUMBUS — Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Tim Black lost her bid for the Ohio Supreme Court on Tuesday night.

        Incumbent Supreme Court Justice Deborah Cook, an Akron Republican, defeated Judge Black, a Democrat, 52 percent to 48 percent.

        Justice Cook emphasized her high court and appellate court experience in what turned out to be a typically low-profile judicial cam- paign.

        Judge Black sought support from traditional Democrat allies, labor unions and trial lawyers, and said his trial court experience gave him a perspective the Ohio Supreme Court lacks.

        He had hoped for a strong turnout not only among Democrats in the Cleveland area, but also from Republican-leaning districts in his hometown of Cincinnati.

        From the beginning, their race was overshadowed by a high-stakes, big-money election battle between Democratic Supreme Court Justice Alice Robie Resnick and Republican challenger Terrence O'Donnell, a Cuyahoga County appellate court judge.
