Machine's votes counted twice
By
The Cincinnati Enquirer
COVINGTON Votes from a voting machine in the Richardson precinct of Kenton County, which includes parts of Elsmere and Erlanger, were counted twice Tuesday night, but the mistake did not change any final results.
Kenton County Clerk Bill Aylor said the votes cast in one of the machines from the Richardson precinct were mistakenly counted twice when the precinct results arrived at the clerk's office late in the evening and had to be counted by hand.
He said when the returns were tallied, election workers thought the 366 votes from the one machine had not been counted and they were added in a second time.
Mr. Aylor said his office would not release anything further regarding the mistake until sometime today, but he emphasized that the additional 366 votes across the entire ballot would not affect the outcome of any race other than the final vote total.
