Veterans Day celebrations in Tristate




        Communities throughout the Tristate will mark Veterans Day this weekend with parades, ceremonies and special programs:

        BATAVIA — The Clermont County Veterans Service office will hold a Veterans Day parade at noon Saturday. Lineup will begin at 11 a.m. at the Batavia Branch Post Office. There will be a flyover at 11:35 a.m. Anyone wishing to participate should call the Clermont County Veterans Service office at 732-7363.

        BLUE ASH — The Blue Ash Veterans Day Committee and the city of Blue Ash will hold Veterans Day ceremonies at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blue Ash Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park, Cooper and Hunt roads. The program will feature Lt. Gen. Charles H. Coolidge Jr., vice commander of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and Bishop John J. Kaising of the archdiocese for the military services.

        CHEVIOT — A Veterans Day parade will be held 2 p.m. Sunday on Harrison Avenue. Members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Cheviot/Western Hills Chapter 3620, will participate for the first time, riding in a fleet of limousines.

        CINCINNATI — Decorated World War II Navy veteran Theodore H. Gardner will be guest speaker at the 46th Annual Veterans Day program at the Main Public Library, 800 Vine St., at 10:45 a.m. Saturday in the atrium. The program will include presentation of memorial wreaths by veterans groups. Information: 369-6959.

        CROSBY TOWNSHIP — A Veterans Day program to dedicate the Veterans and Citizens Memorial will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the memorial on Willey Road.

        FAIRFIELD — A groundbreaking ceremony for Veterans Memorial Park will be 4 p.m. Saturday in the gazebo area next to the Lane Public Library, 701 Wessel Drive.

        GREENHILLS — A memorial service to honor the crew of the USS Cole will be 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Winton Woods Lake. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony at American Legion Post 530, 11100 Winton Road.

        GREEN TOWNSHIP — Five Cheviot and Westwood funeral homes will participate in the Veterans Day 2000 National Balloon Release on Saturday. Those involved are the Rebold, Rosenacker & Sexton Funeral Home; Gump-Holt Funeral Home; Frederick Funeral Home; Vitt, Stermer & Anderson Funeral Home; and Bolton & Lunsford Funeral Home. It is part of a ceremony sponsored by Green Township VFW Post 10380 at Veterans Park on Harrison Avenue. Ceremonies begin at 11 a.m.; the balloons will be released as the ceremonies conclude about 12:30 p.m.

        MONROE — Mount Pleasant Retirement Village will sa lute veterans with a “Stars and Stripes Forever” big band dance 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Mount Pleasant activities building on Indiana Avenue. The Johnny Mack Band will be featured. There is $5 admission; call 539-7760 for reservations or more information.

        MOUNT HEALTHY — Wesley Werner Post 513 and Neidhard-Hensley Funeral Home will participate in a balloon release Saturday at the War Memorial, 1546 McMakin Ave. Memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. with the balloon release at 2 p.m.

        NEW RICHMOND — A Veterans Day service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in front of the Veterans Memorial, Susanna Way and Western Avenue.

        OXFORD — A Veterans Day exhibit is on display through Wednesday at the Oxford branch of the Lane Public Library, 15 S. College St.
