What's happening in area bookstores




        Wish You Well by David Baldacci (Warner; $24.95). Mr. Baldacci, best known for his legal thrillers, has hit best-seller lists with this heartwarming novel set during the 1940s. The lives of two New York City children change dramatically after an auto accident leaves their father dead and their mother catatonic.         All About Chicken, All About Pasta and Noodles, All About Soups and Stews, All About Vegetarian Cooking by Irma S. Rombauer, Marion Rombauer Becker and Ethan Becker (Scribner; $19.95 each). This new series of cookbooks has been spun off the hometown Joy Of Cooking franchise. The recipes, from Joy, now are accompanied by full-color and how-to photos.         Magnolias and Mayhem, edited by Jeffrey Marks (Silver Dagger Mysteries; $24.50 hardcover; $15 paperback). The local writer-editor (Canine Crimes, Canine Christmas) gathered short stories by Southern mystery writers for his most recent book. Lecture and signing: noon Monday, Main Library, Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, 800 Vine St., downtown. Mr. Marks' books will be available for purchase through the Library Friends' Shop.

        The Mark: The Beast Rules the World by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins (Tyndale House; $22.99). Today's the release date for the eighth book in the wildly popular “Left Behind” Christian book series. Things pick up where The Indwelling left off, with the evil Nicolae Carpathia rising from the dead to rule the world and take his place as the Antichrist. Will his foes live to see the second coming? (Also look for it today on audio, $15.99).
