Best bet to find flu shot: stores
By Tim Bonfield
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Northern Kentucky Health Department has no flu vaccine. And many doctors, hospitals, senior centers and other public health clinics are still waiting for shipments.
So where can a person get a flu shot? Try your local grocery store or pharmacy.

FLU TIPS

With flu vaccine shipment delays leaving large numbers of people unvaccinated much longer than usual this winter, health officials urge the public to pay special attention to hygiene in the next few months. Meanwhile, those who do get sick can limit their risk of serious complications by promptly seeking medical care.
Keep your immune system strong by eating well, sleeping well and drinking plenty of fluids.
Wash hands frequently, which means after every bathroom trip, after blowing your nose and after contact with sick people.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Avoid large crowds, sick friends or sick relatives.
If you get sick, avoid others to prevent infections.
If you develop flu symptoms (fever over 100 degrees, cough, sore throat, headache, muscle aches, extreme fatigue), contact your doctor immediately. New medications to reduce the flu's impact must be taken within the first two days of onset of symptoms.

A check with the Greater Cincinnati Health Improvement Collaborative, which compiles information about local flu shot clinics, shows that Kroger, Thriftway and CVS will be the leading providers of flu shots in the coming week.
More sites will be available in late November and into December, but with vaccine supplies coming in unpredictable times, health officials are reluctant to publicize events beyond a week away.
For updated information, call your doctor or call 931-SHOT in Southwest Ohio or (859) 578-7872, Ext. 333, in Northern Kentucky. Many local flu shot clinics also are being posted in the health and wellness section of www.cincinnati.com.
