FAIRFIELD An assistant elementary school principal has resigned over a disagreement with Fairfield Schools Superintendent Charles Wiedenmann.
Gregory Puthoff, assistant principal at West Elementary, was put on paid leave by Mr. Wiedenmann following the school board's acceptance of Mr. Puthoff's resignation Thursday. Mr. Puthoff will remain on paid leave until the end of the year, when his resignation is effective, Mr. Wiedenmann said.
A situation arose where Mr. Puthoff and I had a major difference of opinion. The situation did not involve the children of this district ... or their safety, Mr. Wiedenmann said. Mr. Puthoff's resignation is effective Dec. 31, and therefore I decided it was best that he remain on paid leave.
Mr. Puthoff could not be reached for comment. Mr. Wiedenmann declined to elaborate on the disagreement.
Mr. Puthoff has always worked hard to see that the children and Fairfield City Schools can be the best they can be. I wish him well.
Mr. Puthoff was hired in 1986 as a middle school math teacher. He taught fifth-grade math for one year at North Elementary School before being named an assistant principal at Central Elementary School in 1992. He has been West's assistant principal since 1995.
Mr. Wiedenmann said position will be posted later this month.
