SARDINIA A man found shot to death Wednesday was under indictment in Indiana on two felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, Brown County sheriff's officials said Friday.
Louis E. Gropengieser, 44, was found dead in his bomb-rigged home Wednesday morning by a relative who went to check on him. Sheriff's officials did not identify the relative, but said he called 911 when he smelled propane gas coming from inside the home on Sardinia Mowrystown Road.
Sheriff Wendell Crawford said deputies, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Sardinia police, fire and life squad personnel isolated the area.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Bomb Disposal Unit, the Ohio Fire Marshal's office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification were called to the scene.
The sheriff said four pipe bombs were removed from the house. One of the devices was set to initiate an explosion as soon as anyone entered the front door.
Officers also found several handguns, shotguns and rifles in the house.
The Allen County Sheriff's Office in Fort Wayne, Ind., said records show Mr. Gropengieser was to be tried in February on two felony charges stemming from allegations that he had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl last summer.
Authorities believe he killed himself after booby-trapping the house, but an autopsy will be conducted.
