WEST CHESTER TWP. Middletown City Manager Ron Olson will leave his position by year's end to become the business manager for Lakota schools.
Mr. Olson, 51, was hired Monday by the Lakota Board of Education and submitted his resignation Tuesday to Middletown City Commission.
He was given a two-year contract and an annual salary of $82,000, a decrease from the $95,000 he made as city manager.
It really came time for me to evaluate my life, where I'm at and where I'm going, Mr. Olson said. I'm excited. It's a new opportuni ty. It represents a shift in my career path.
Mr. Olson has been Middletown's manager for eight years. Before that he held similar positions in Belding, Mich., and West Jordan, Utah. He also spent three years in the military and two years in ministry.
This is a key position at Lakota, Superintendent Kathleen Klink said. He will help to protect taxpayer funds and assets through sound purchasing practices and management, and ensure the smooth operation of all the services that support education at Lakota.
His skills are where we want to go as we become better fiscal managers, she said.
