Murder trial to be delayed
Slain Delta pilot case will resume with new Kenton attorney
The Cincinnati Enquirer
COVINGTON The trial of the wife of slain Delta pilot Stephen Craven and her two alleged accomplices charged in his killing is caught between the changeover of administrations in the Kenton Commonwealth Attorney's office.
During a hearing on the case Wednesday afternoon, outgoing Commonwealth Attorney Don Buring told Kenton Circuit Judge Patricia Summe that he thought it was inappropriate to argue certain motions because he no longer would be trying the case.
As a result, Judge Summe set another hearing for Jan. 8.
Bill Crockett will be sworn in as the new Kenton Commonwealth Attorney after Jan. 1.
A trial date has not been set in the capital murder case, but it could be as late as September of next year.
Mr. Craven's wife, Adele, of Edgewood; her reputed lover Rusty McIntire of Erlanger; and the alleged triggerman, Ronald Pryor of Independence, all appeared in court for Wednesday's hearing.
Mr. Craven, 38, was beaten and shot in his basement in July. He had been clubbed four times in the head with a crowbar and shot three times.
Detectives have said that Mrs. Craven helped plan the killing and presided over it, and ordered Mr. Pryor to shoot her husband after he appeared to have survived the other assaults.
Police say Mr. McIntire, who is married, told officers he and Mrs. Craven wanted to be together, so they planned to pay Mr. Pryor, a former co-worker of Mr. McIntire's, $15,000.
