Parents who treated boy as girl cleared
The Associated Press
COLUMBUS A neglect charge has been dismissed against the parents of a 6-year-old boy who wanted to send him to school as a girl.
The boy will remain in foster care and continue to receive counseling. His parents, Paul and Sherry Lipscomb, who are es tranged, will have separate supervised visits with the child.
Judge Kay Lias of Franklin County Juvenile Court approved the settlement in the case Wednesday.
Franklin County Children's Services had filed complaints alleging the child was neglected.
The boy was removed from the couple's suburban Westerville home in August after they informed school officials that he would wear girl's clothes and have a girl's name this school year.
The Lipscombs said their son has been diagnosed with gender-identity disorder by a specialist in Cincinnati.
