Corryville disturbance yields three arrests
Three teen-agers were arrested Friday night in Corryville after an unruly crowd roamed around University Avenue and short Vine Street, turning over trash cans, throwing rocks, damaging cars and fighting.
Cincinnati police sprayed chemical irritant to control a crowd described at one point as more than 1,000 people.
Police said teens, many of whom thought a private party at a restaurant banquet room was a new dance club, gathered outside the restaurant at University and Highland avenues.
The owner, Chris Harten, said some teens were thrown out of the restaurant because of overcrowding, then gathered in the street. A door was torn off its hinges and a gate was broken.
Apparently, some people were upset over being thrown out after paying a cover charge. We just couldn't let them all in, Mr. Harten said while repairing the damage.
Groups of young people roamed the area starting about 9 p.m., but the situation was in control after about an hour.
