Robbery called a fake
The Associated Press
FISHERS, Ind. A woman who told police intruders tied her up and burglarized her home now stands accused of concocting the story to steal money from her husband.
Joyce Pack, 30, surrendered to police Wednesday and was later released after posting a $50,000 bond.
On Sept. 8, she told investigators she was alone at home when a man claiming to be a police officer came to her door, punched her in the stomach and forced his way into her house.
Two other men and a woman followed him inside the home, she said, tied her to a piece of exercise equipment and proceeded to ransack the home.
But Fishers Police Sgt. Gerry Hepp said Friday that investigators think Ms. Pack conspired with Marva J. Thompson, 29, of Fishers and Ms. Thompson's brother, Mark L. Thompson, 21, of Fishers, to stage the robbery to take money from Ms. Pack's husband, Ken Pack.
The trio now face charges ranging from theft and conspiracy to commit theft to false reporting.
Police began to look deeper into Ms. Pack's story after investigators found more than an ounce of marijuana and $3,500 in Marva Thompson's Fishers apartment after an October fire.
Anthony Peahay, 26, who shared the apartment with Marva Thompson, said the money was Marva Thompson's share of the money taken from Ms. Pack's home.
