NKU women in soccer final four

By Dave Goldstein
The Cincinnati Enquirer

The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team, ranked fourth in the nation, travels to play undefeated Barry (Fla.) University in the final four of the NCAA Division II tournament today.

NKU comes off a 1-0 victory over Mercyhurst (Penn.) but will have to face an 18-0 squad that is hosting the final four for the second straight year.

The Norse are led by midfielder Tricia Ruark (Seton), this season's Great Lakes Valley Conference player of the year, who is second in the conference in assists and scoring. Betsy Moore (McAuley), who was last year's GLVC player of the year, has battled injuries this season but has scored 14 goals, and was named first-team all-GLVC. Six Norse players were selected first-team all-conference.

NKU has broken the school record by scoring 82 goals, topping last season's 76.

This will be the second straight season in which the Norse play the top-ranked team in the country in the final four. Last year NKU lost to eventual NCAA champ Franklin Pierce.
