Airport terminal costs less than thought
By Steve Kemme
The Cincinnati Enquirer
HAMILTON Bids for a new terminal at Butler County Regional Airport came in about $100,000 below the county's projection.
The lowest bid was $1 million from Seyferth Building Co.
The county's administra tion will recommend one of the bids to commissioners.
When the project was bid two months ago, the bids came in at $300,000 over the county's projected cost.
It looks like this bids are in line, Commissioner Courtney Combs said.
A double-wide trailer has served as the temporary terminal since the two-story concrete-block terminal building was demolished two years ago.
The old terminal, built in the 1930s and expanded in the 1960s, had deteriorated and was in a runway safety zone.
Terminal construction will begin early next year and will be finished by late 2001, Mr. Combs said.
The county recently received a $150,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to help pay for a glide-slope, a radio signal that helps approaching planes descend at an appropriate angle.
Mr. Combs said the airport is an important factor in attracting businesses to Butler County.
