Cyclones 7, Cleveland 4

The Cincinnati Enquirer

CLEVELAND — Two goals each from Brad DeFauw and Greg Koehler paced the Cincinnati Cyclones to their second straight win in less than 24 hours when they defeated the Cleveland Lumberjacks 7-4 Saturday in the IHL.

Cyclones goaltender Corey Hirsch stopped 34 shots for his fourth consecutive win.

Brian Felsner gave Cincinnati a 1-0 lead two minutes into the contest with his seventh goal of the season.

Cleveland tied it at 1-1 before Koehler scored his first of the game and 11th of the season from the slot in front of Lumberjacks goaltender Zac Bierk. Cleveland scored the first two in the second period to take a 3-2 lead on goals by Pascal Dupuis and a shorthanded goal by former Hobey Baker Award winner Brian Bonin.

Koehler notched his second goal of the game and team-leading 12th of the season when he intercepted a Bonin cross-ice pass and skated down ice — uncontested.

Bonin scored his second of the game — and again shorthanded — to give Cleveland a 4-3 lead.

Cincinnati then scored four unanswered goals — two power-play tallies by DeFauw, a shorthanded goal by Ian MacNeil and an empty-netter by Erik Cole — to claim the win and move into a second-place tie with Cleveland in the Eastern Conference.

The Cyclones (13-12-3) return home Tuesday to host the hottest team in the IHL West, the Manitoba Moose. Face-off is 7:30 p.m. at Firstar Center.
