Stuff victorious in opener


Lewis, Kingsbury score early, often

        After a sluggish start and early foul trouble, the Cincinnati Stuff roared back with a balanced attack to defeat the New Mexico Slam 122-105 Saturday in the season opener in the Firstar Center.

        The Stuff opened a 14-point third-quarter margin and never looked back, led by Martin Lewis with 19 points. Seven players for the Stuff had more than 10 points, with Chris Kingsbury hitting five 3-point baskets.

        Andy Panko poured in 38 points for the Slam but was forced out at the end of the game because of a wrist injury.

        Turnovers plagued New Mexico; the Stuff converted the miscues into 28 points. The Stuff also got 53 points from their bench.
