Healthy Eating

Expect setbacks when dieting

You will make mistakes from time to time on your eating plan, especially during the holidays. That's OK. Remember: A single chocolate drop or cookie is not a crisis.

If you do eat more than you planned, be realistic and maintain a positive attitude. Watch what you say to yourself. Don't tell yourself that you're a failure. Accept a mistake for what it is, a temporary setback. It doesn't mean you've lost all ability to manage your food intake. One setback does not ruin the days or weeks of progress you have made.

What happens after the setback is more important than the setback itself. You will have learned something from the experience which you can carry forward to the next event.

Analyze the factors which triggered your setback and make a plan for a healthier choice in the future. Start the next day fresh with a renewed commitment to your health plan. A realistic, positive attitude is very important in helping you control special event eating.
