LEBANON — The recent arrest of a Tennessee man accused of posing as a police officer and pulling over a woman for sex has attracted the interest of more than two dozen agencies investigating unsolved homicides, rapes and missing women, Springboro police said Tuesday.

As Mark Mixner, a medical supply company owner from Knoxville, was bailed out of jail by his business partner, Detective Tim Parker continued to sort through police inquiries from as far away as Oregon, Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

“They are interested in his M.O. His business is throughout the U.S. He has contact in a lot of places,” Detective Parker said.

But Mr. Mixner's lawyer denied that the 37-year-old father of two daughters was involved in any serious crimes across the nation.

“Clearly we don't have some serial rapist here — just a bizarre set of circumstances,” attorney Dennis Lieberman said.

“No (police department) has put a hold on him, which indicates he's not the one. He's never even been to some of those states.”

However, he gave no explanation for his client's alleged behavior, saying it is too early in the case to comment on what happened.

Mr. Mixner sobbed and, at times, held his head in his hands during his video arraignment in Warren County Court on Tuesday.

He was arrested early Thursday and charged with kidnapping, personating a police officer and possession of criminal tools after police said he followed a young woman from Bojangle's nightclub in West Carrollton, a suburb of Dayton, Ohio.

The woman told police that a man used an emergency light on the dashboard of his rented maroon Blazer to pull her over on Pennyroyal Road in Springboro.

She said the man showed a badge and identified himself as an undercover officer working on a drunken driving task force. After telling her he thought she was driving drunk, he ordered her into his vehicle and told her he would take her to jail unless she gave him sex, the woman reported.

She was able to escape, and the man fled in his car when Springboro police pulled over to investigate the two vehicles parked on the side of the road.

Mr. Mixner was arrested in his Blazer after returning to the parking lot of Bojangle's. A variety of disguises and police paraphernalia were found in the car, according to police.

Mr. Mixner was in the area on business and was staying at a motel in Miamisburg at the time, Detective Parker said.

On Tuesday Mr. Mixner's wife, mother-in-law, business partner and four deacons and the pastor from the Pentecostal Church he attends looked on as Mr. Lieberman asked Judge Dallas Powers to set a reasonable bail.

Mr. Lieberman described his client as a dedicated family man who has daughters age 6 and 2, and a respected business owner who was deeply involved in his church.

But Warren County Assistant Prosecutor Carolyn Duvelius said she wanted Mr. Mixner to remain incarcerated. She said he is a threat to the public because he exhibited “predatory behavior.”

“When (the victim) was able to escape, he returned to the same place in an effort to find more women,” Mrs. Duvelius told the judge.

Judge Powers set bail at 10 percent of $100,0000 but required Mr. Mixner to turn in his passport until the case is resolved.

Mr. Mixner is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing Thursday to determine if there is enough evidence to send to the case to a grand jury for possible indictment.
