Butler airport contracts awarded

By Steve Kemme
The Cincinnati Enquirer

HAMILTON — Butler County commissioners awarded $1.3 million contracts Thursday for a new terminal at the Butler County Regional Airport.

Seyfurth Building Co. will be the general contractor.

Butler County, Hamilton, Fairfield, West Chester Township and Fairfield Township will share the cost of the new terminal.

It will replace a double-wide trailer that has served as the temporary terminal since the two-story concrete-block terminal building was torn down two years ago.

The old terminal, built in the 1930s and expanded in the 1960s, had deteriorated and was in a runway safety zone.

Construction is to be completed by late 2001.

The profile of the airport, which straddles Hamilton and Fairfield, has become more prominent in recent years because of Butler County's rapid growth.

Millions of dollars of improvements have been made in the past two years.

The county recently received a $150,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to help pay for a glide-slope, a radio signal that helps approaching planes descend at an appropriate angle.
