Cincinnati boys basketball games


St. Xavier's defense stifles Zanesville 53-46


        St. Xavier, the No.1 team in the Enquirer's Division I coaches' poll, used tough man-to-man defense to hold Zanesville to a combined seven points in the middle two quarters en route to a 53-46 victory Saturday.

        Senior guard Steve Callahan scored 10 of his season-high 23 points in the third quarter as the Bombers took a 13-point lead.

        Jordan Cornette scored 11 points for St. X, despite sitting out the second quarter with foul trouble.

        • McNicholas 71, Anderson 60 — Junior for ward Brian Chrin scored 13 of his game-high 24 points in the first half to help McNicholas, the No.2 team in the Enquirer's Division II-IV coaches' poll, take a 15-point halftime lead.

        Chris Norwell led Anderson with 19 points.
