Cincinnati girls basketball games


Late Mason free throws hold off Canton McKinley

        Mason made nine of 12 free throws in the fourth period Wednesday night, securing a 60-45 victory over previously unbeaten Canton McKinley in the first round of the girls Mason Holiday Classic.

        The Comets, defending Division I state champions and the city's top-ranked team, had lost two in a row.

        Jere' Issenmann made four free throws and Nicole Stein three to seal the victory.

        Michelle Munoz led Mason with 22 points and 13 rebounds, Issenmann finished with 21 points.

        Mason plays Wooster tonight at 9 p.m.

        • Wooster 49, Shaker Heights 40, at Mason Holiday Classic — Jaime Cline and Erin Bender both sank four free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the victory for the Generals.

        Whitney Taylor led Wooster with 14 points while Tracy Jacobs from Shaker Heights led all scorers with 16, 13 in the first half.

        Tina Dobrowolski scored 10 points in a losing effort for the Knights.
