N.Ky. boys basketball games


Dawn scores 30 in NewCath win

        Ronnie Dawn, who sat out the first four games with an ankle sprain, scored 30 points to lead Newport Central Catholic over Lexington Henry Clay 69-50 Wednesday in the Fifth Third Classic at Lexington Catholic.

        The Thoroughbreds sank four consecutive 3-pointers in the first quarter, two by Dawn, to take control.

        Jeff Colson added 13 points for NewCath.

        The Thoroughbreds play Muhlenberg North in the quarterfinals today at 6:30 p.m.

        Chad McCarter, playing with torn ligaments in the right foot, led the Big Train with a game-high 22 points, 14 in the third quarter.

        Stevenson finished with 28 points while Ben Lye added 14.

        Scott meets undefeated Washington County (8-0) today (8:30 p.m.) in the semifinals.
