NKU men, women add to win streaks


Men are 12-0; Women claim 33rd straight victory

        ERIE, Pa. — Craig Sanders scored a game-high 32 points Saturday night as Northern Kentucky University remained unbeaten after an 89-86 victory over Gannon (Pa.) University in the championship game of the Porreco Cup Tournament.

        Sanders (McNicholas) made nine 3-pointers as NKU improved to 12-0. It is NKU's best start since the 1996-97 season.

        After Josh Morgan made a 3-pointer to cut Gannon's deficit to 87-86, Sanders made a pair of free throws to give NKU an 89-86 lead. Sanders was named to the all-tournament team, while NKU's Craig Conley (19 points, eight assists) earned the tournament's most valuable player honor.

        Carl Mitchell added 11 points and seven rebounds for NKU.

        • NKU women 89, Ferris State 72 — Michelle Cottrell scored 21 points as the Norse extended their winning streak to 33 games.

        Heather Livingstone had 19 points and four assists for NKU (9-0), ranked No.1 nationally in NCAA Division II.

        The all-time record for consecutive wins in Division II women's basketball is 49, by North Dakota State.
