Get to it

A guide to help make your day

Going out

Macbeth: Bless her heart, there goes Lady Macbeth again worrying about the laundry — “out damned spot” — and wondering if it's “a dagger I see before me.” Oh yeah, she's ruthless, too. Spend a night in her bloody clutches when Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival uncorks the Bard's tale of fate, ambition and murder in high places. A five-weekend run opens 8 p.m. today with shows Thursday-Sunday through Feb. 4, 719 Race St., downtown. $13-$18. 381-2273.

Inspirational musical: Music, drama and a pair of gospel biggies. That's what you get when Desmond Pringle and Dorothy Norwood sing out loud and clear in When a Woman's Fed Up. 7:30 p.m. today with matinee and evening performances through Sunday, Taft Theatre, Fifth and Sycamore streets, downtown. $19.50-$28. 852-9883.

Health program: Heaven knows, it's no walk in the park keeping kids happy and healthy this time of year. That's why we have “Help Me Be Healthy,” a free program addressing the concerns of children birth to age 3. WCET-48 ready-to-learn coordinator Barbara Walkerleads the way. 6:30 p.m. today, Main Public Library, 800 Vine St., downtown. 369-6970.

Staying In

Love in bloom: Whoa, here's something new — a possible romance for Phoebe on Friends. Hank Azaria — who has been the dog-walker on Mad About You and the voice of Moe and Apu on The Simpsons — guest stars as a scientist who returns after years in Russia to woo Phoebe. 8 p.m. Channel 5.

Sing it: Renee Fleming, sometimes considered the next big thing among operatic sopranos — that's big as in popular, not big as in, say, humongous — performs in the intimate setting of Lincoln Center's penthouse. Live From Lincoln Center, 9 p.m., Channel 48.

Planning Ahead

24 hours out: The Cincinnati Art Museum goes livin' la vida loca with merengue, salsa, mambo and the Latin band Tropicoso. It's the Thank van Gogh It's Friday party, complete with after-hours art viewing, hors d'oeuvres and cash bar. 5:30-9 p.m. Friday. $8. 721-2787.

48 hours out: Adult men and women are needed as volunteer actors in the sex-and-vampire adventure Vamps 2: Bloodlust. Auditions are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the screening room at 636 Northland Blvd., Forest Park. Bring a photo and resume, if available. For appointments, call 734-4909 or email david1levy@fuse.net. Participants will receive free tapes of the movie, which will be shot in February.

Also 48 hours out: Well-known Cincinnati illustrator Loren Long signs and shares thoughts about his children's book My Dog, My Hero, eight true tales of courageous dogs. 11 a.m. Saturday, Joseph-Beth Kids, Rookwood Pavilion, Norwood. 396-8960.

72 hours 'til Sunday: Bartok, Strauss and Haydn get the treatment when Mischa Santora gives the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra the downbeat. 3 p.m. Sunday, Memorial Hall, 1225 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine. $4-$20. 241-7469.

Get To It appears daily. Send items to Get To It, Tempo, Cincinnati Enquirer, 312 Elm St., Cincinnati 45202; fax: 768-8330.
