High-definition TV part comes from Clermont Co.

Corning Precision Lens in Clermont County will provide a major part of a new, thin, lightweight high-definition TV introduced by Thomson Multimedia at the Consumer Electronics Show this weekend in Las Vegas.
This is a pretty exciting departure for us, said John D. Rudolph, vice president of business development for the Union Township company, which employs 1,300.
Precision Lens, a leading supplier of lenses for cathode ray tube projection TVs, has designed and will assemble the optical platform for the RCA L50000 set that goes on sale this summer.
Precision Lens, which has expanded its projection TV lens production twice in the last year, has leased additional space near its plant for the new production line, Mr. Rudolph said. He said he couldn't disclose the company's investment or the number of employees involved.
Thomson said the TV is 100 pounds lighter than a traditional 50-inch TV and has the slim profile of a 19-inch set. Precision Lens, a unit of Corning Inc., will provide the optical system that incorporates liquid crystal on silicon technology, which uses light valves to create a much sharper image. There was no word on the cost of the new sets.
