Taped gang rape sick, police say
Four men at New Year's party charged

HAMILTON Four men are accused in a videotaped gang-rape of an unconscious woman at a New Year's Eve party.
The assault shocked even seasoned detectives.
The investigators told me the tape was so horrific and so horrible that it made them sick to watch it, said Sgt. Thomas E. Kilgour, Hamilton police spokesman.

It horrified them that people could treat another human being this way and then videotape what they did.
The suspects, arrested between Wednesday and Friday, are scheduled for a hearing Tuesday in Municipal Court. They are:
Daymon Eugene Anderson, 24, of Springfield Township.
Michael Lynn Reid, 22, of Springdale.
Justin Walker Bowman, 21, of Fairfield.
Stephan Wesley Tremble, 23, of Lexington.
Mr. Bowman was charged with a count of rape and a count of assault; the other three were charged with two counts of rape.
Mr. Tremble has been released from the Butler County Jail after posting a $20,000 bond. The others remained jailed Friday.
Sgt. Kilgour said he couldn't think of any comparable sexual assault reported in the city during his 30-year career.
He said witnesses told police most of the party-goers, including the 26-year-old victim, were drinking heavily just before the attack, which is thought to have occurred sometime between 11:30 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday in the 300 block of Clinton Avenue.
Studies show alcohol is a factor in a significant percentage of sexual assaults, although most research has focused on the problem among college students. A 1997 summary of studies showed offenders had been drinking in up to 60 percent of assaults, and victims had been drinking in up to 40 percent.
Police also are investigating whether the woman had been given any drugs.
The videotape showing the attack is about 30 minutes long, Sgt. Kilgour said. The attack ended after another party-goer walked into the room, he said. After the woman awakened, that party-goer told her what had happened and brought the woman to the police station.
She was taken to Mercy Hospital Hamilton for examination and released.
