Cyclones 3, Detroit 2

The Cincinnati Enquirer

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — The Cincinnati Cyclones defeated the Detroit Vipers for the 13th consecutive time Saturday with a 3-2 IHL shootout victory.

The win set a Cincinnati franchise record for consecutive victories against the same opponent.

Harlan Pratt and Gilbert Dionne both scored in the final three minutes of the third period to allow the Cyclones to send the game to overtime after falling behind 2-0.

Dionne's goal was helped by a great play at the Viper blue line by Greg Koehler, who jumped into the air to glove a clearing pass and keep the Cyclones on the attack. Cincinnati tied the game with just 41 seconds left after pulling the goaltender for an extra attacker.

Cyclones goalie Jean-Marc Pelletier, playing in his first game since suffering an injury in December, stopped four of five Detroit shooters. Jaroslav Svoboda gave the Cyclones their winning margin when he beat Viper goalie Dieter Kochan with a backhand shot that jumped in under the crossbar.
