Bush group gives Lindner back $100K
WASHINGTON The Presidential Inaugural Committee returned $100,000 of a $200,000 donation from Carl Lindner Jr. of American Financial Group Inc. because it has pledged not to accept any individual contribution of more than $100,000.
Mr. Lindner's $200,000 contribution was disclosed on the committee's Web site late last week and included in a report from the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonprofit group that follows campaign finance. Susan Phalen, a spokeswoman for the committee, said Monday that the staff would correct the figure.
Mr. Lindner's donation was received Dec. 28 and the committee made the refund Jan. 1, Ms. Phalen said.
