The Cincinnati Enquirer
FLORENCE A 77-year-old woman died Monday morning in a four-car crash on Dixie Highway, just north of Industrial Road.
Margie Neff of Independence died at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. Mrs. Neff was a passenger in a Chrysler Lebaron driven by her husband, Robert Neff. Mr. Neff was is in critical condition Monday night at University Hospital, according to a nursing supervisor.
The driver and passenger in an Oldsmobile northbound on U.S. 25 also were injured. The driver, William Knight, 54, of Lexington, was in stable condition at St. Luke Hospital West. His passenger, Jesse Henderson, 32, of Warsaw, was in serious condition at University Hospital.
The drivers of the two other vehicles were not injured. Bill Cooper of Hebron was driving a Dodge Ram pickup. Mike Johnson, 60, of Owenton was driving a Chevrolet Tracker.
Mr. Cooper, a registered nurse, said he tried to help Mrs. Neff.
Two children ages 2 and 6 received minor injuries but did not need to go to the hospital.
Florence Police did not have details of how the crash happened.
It was a confusing mess when I got there, said Florence Police Lt. Tim Chesser. It involved four cars.
He said the Oldsmobile was northbound on U.S. 25 about 10:45 a.m. when it crossed the center line and struck a southbound car, which collided with another southbound vehicle. A second northbound vehicle became involved in the pile-up.
