New lot to offer 200 spaces at prime spot
The $1.5 million project to fill in the hole at Fifth and Race streets that was to be home to a Nordstrom store got under way Friday.

The site will become a parking lot until a tenant is found. After Nordstrom pulled out of a $48.7 million deal in November to build a downtown store, City Council members said they would make a temporary parking lot of the site.
The lot, to open April 30, will have 200 spaces. Rates will be $1 for the first two hours and $1 for each additional hour, up to five hours total.
