State panel clears Erie County judge of ethics violation in 1998 campaign
The Associated Press
SANDUSKY, Ohio A county judge has been cleared of allegations that she violated judicial ethics during her 1998 re-election campaign.
The disciplinary panel for the state Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline on Thursday dismissed the complaint against Erie County Common Pleas Judge Ann Maschari.
Her opponent in the 1998 race, Sandusky lawyer Jim Hart, accused Judge Maschari of violating rules of professional conduct in her advertisements.
While the panel ruled that the ads weren't violations, panel Chairman Richard Alkire chastised her for ads that called Mr. Hart a pretender.
The panel is not impressed with the language or the message, he said.
Judge Maschari in November said she approved the ads.
Neither she nor Mr. Hart would comment after the ruling.
