NewCath loses in Louisville tourney

        A 22-foot shot at the buzzer by Jeff Colson came up short as Louisville Pleasure Ridge Park beat Newport Central Catholic 54-52 in the quarterfinals of the Louisville Invitational Tournament at the Louisville Gardens Friday night.

        Seth Lynn made two 3-pointers in the last 1:30 of the game to help NewCath cut an 11-point PRP lead to three.

        Ronny Dawn scored 19 for the Wildcats.

        Jeremy Kelly led PRP with 19 points.

        NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC (52) — Colson 3 1 7, Dawn 5 5 19, Myers 6 3 15, Lynn 4 0 11. Totals: 18 9 52.

        • Campbell County 78, Newport 62 — Senior guard Steve Sigmon capped a career night with 17 points in the fourth quarter for the Camels.

        The Wildcats cut the Camels' lead to four points at the end of the third quarter. But Campbell County pulled away for good by outscoring Newport 11-2 at the start the fourth quarter.

        Sigmon finished with 30 points to lead all scorers. Kevin Reinhardt added 17 for Campbell County.

        • Covington Catholic 73, Simon Kenton 61 — Covington Catholic went on a 16-5 run to end after Simon Kenton had cut the the Colonels' lead to 57-56 midway through the fourth quarter.

        Brian Lewis led the CovCath with a game-high 29 points. Mike Brock had 20 points and 11 rebounds for Simon Kenton.

        • Ryle 67, Holmes 61 — Senior guard Justin Noel gave Ryle the lead for good with a third-quarter 3-pointer.

        Noel was 9-of-9 on free throws for the Raiders, who shot 26-for-31 from the line in the game. They were 15-for-18 in the fourth quarter.

        Sophomore center Justin Doellman scored a game-high 21 points and had 10 rebounds for Ryle.

        Brandent Engleman led the Holmes with 20 points.

        • Scott 59, Bishop Brossart 42, LaRosa's Shoemaker Shootout — Bryan Stevenson hit four of his five 3-pointers in the first quarter to help Scott, the No.6 team in the Enquirer's coaches poll, to a 20-12 lead.

        Chris Thompson led the Eagles with 19 points. Stevenson finished with 15 and Ben Lye had 12 for Scott.

        Nick Ziegler and Chris Ryan each scored 13 points to lead the Mustangs.

        • Silver Grove 69, Ludlow 57 — Keith Bauman scored 18 points and Chad McCartyer and Jimmy Horstman had 14 each as the Big Trains improved to 13-0, their best start ever.

        Both teams entered the game undefeated in NKAC play.

        Bauman scored 12 points and Anthony Bacis had eight in the second half for Silver Grove, which trailed 41-35 at halftime.

        Adam Martin scored a game-high 25 points for the Panthers.

        • St. Henry 69, Boone County 55 — Senior forward Nick Love scored nine of his 16 points in the third quarter to help St. Henry, the No.9 team in The Enquirer's coaches poll, break open a close game. The Crusaders led 28-27 at halftime.

        Love and senior forward Andrew Vieth each scored 16 points for the Crusaders.

        Senior forward Ben Brown made four 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 26 points for Boone County.

        • Bellevue 65, Dayton 58 — Forward Mike Gullett scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Tigers. Gullett, a senior, made five 3-pointers, including three in the third quarter.

        Senior guard James Delaney had 13 points and senior forward Jerry Gramer had 12 for Bellevue.

        Nathan Hall, a senior guard, finished with 15 points and Jimmy Gilbert, a senior forward, had 14 for the Greendevils.
