Best and worst of week in sports

The Enquirer sports department's look at who rated — good and bad — this week in sports:

THE TOP 5

        1. The New York Football Giants: They're a game away from becoming the most boring team ever to play in the Super Bowl.

        2. Corey Dillon: Firing two agents gets you to No. 2 in our ratings. If you fire three, we'll make you No. 1 next week.

        3. Elder High basketball: The Panthers defeated Western Hills and defending state champion St. Xavier in the same week.

        4. Don Zimmer: The West Hi Kid is back for his 53rd year in baseball. He's running out of fingers to put all those rings on.

        5. Rick Majerus: Stepping down for a year is the right thing to do. Family should come first. But with the time off, mix in a salad or two. It's not a good idea to go in and get your heart worked on every couple of years.

        BOTTOM FIVE

        1. Dick Vermeil: That tearful departure from St. Louis looks a little shallow now. But $10 million will change a lot of minds.

        2. UC basketball: Yikes. Another blown lead at Marquette. A Huggins blowup. And an AWOL player. Are the Bearcats headed for the NIT? No. Conference USA is so bad, UC will lose only two or three more games.

        3. Xavier basketball: Losing at UMass at home has NIT nightmares dancing in Muskies fans' heads.

        4. Tony Tubbs: Here's a guy you want to do well. Nice man, well-spoken. But drugs keep dragging him down.

        5. Shaq and Kobe: One ball, two egos. You do the math.
