Kansas City 4, Cyclones 3
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The Cincinnati Cyclones were unable to hold off a 6-on-3 power play as the Kansas City Blades tied the game with 15 seconds left in regulation and then prevailed in the shootout to win 4-3 Saturday night in the IHL at Firstar Center.
Cincinnati had two players in the penalty box during the game's final 30 seconds, and the Blades pulled their goaltender for a sixth skater. KC's Mike Brown deflected a high shot into the bottom of the Cyclones net for the tying goal. It appeared that Brown struck the puck with a high stick.
After falling behind 2-1, the Cyclones scored two straight goals to pull ahead. Rookie Jeff Hereema scored his first goal of 2001 and Brad DeFauw gave Cincinnati the lead as he blistered a shot that Kansas City goalie Corey Schwab gloved but then dropped into the net. After a scoreless overtime two Blades scored during the shootout while only Greg Koehler was able to convert for the Cyclones.
