Ohio U 62, Miami 60


Withrow grad buries RedHawks

        ATHENS — Brandon Hunter (Withrow High) scored the go-ahead basket in overtime as Ohio beat Miami 62-60 Saturday.

        Hunter hit a jumper to give the Bobcats (8-5, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) a 61-59 lead with 2:47 remaining. He missed two free throws with 18 seconds to play, but Ohio got the ball back when Miami's Mike Ensminger lost the rebound out of bounds.

        The RedHawks (5-9, 2-2) were forced to foul Anthony Jones, who hit one of two free throws with 11 seconds left to close the scoring.

        Doug Davis led Miami with 23 points, including a three-point play that put the RedHawks ahead 54-47 with 3:56 to go in regulation.

        Hunter, who finished with 25 points and 19 rebounds, made two free throws to cut it to 54-50. Steve Esterkamp followed with a 3-pointer and Dustin Ford hit two at the line to give Ohio a 55-54 lead with 1:03 to play.

        Alex Shorts hit two free throws with 40 seconds left to put Miami on top 56-55. Ford had a chance to give the Bobcats the lead with four seconds to go, but he missed one of two free throws.

        Jones scored 14 points and Patrick Flomo blocked eight shots for Ohio. The Bobcats made only 23-of-39 free throws, including 9-of-18 by Hunter, who also had seven turnovers.

        Shorts scored 18 points and Jason Grunkemeyer had 12 for Miami.
