Catching up with the dieters
By Peggy O'Farrell
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Cincinnati's dieters have hit the pavement. And the treadmill and StairMaster.
Our weight-loss warriors Jerome Manigan, Mary Youtsey and Tanya Chinn are working exercise into their weight-loss regimens.
No one's ready for the Boston Marathon although we suspect Mrs. Youtsey might be thinking about it but they are getting up and moving. Mr. Manigan has been walking every day, Ms. Chinn walks with a friend at work when she can and Mrs. Youtsey is splitting her time between a treadmill and stair machine. She's also working in strength training with free weights.
The three continue adjusting, mentally and physically, to the Cincinnati Diet. Ms. Chinn and Mrs. Youtsey are following the meal plans as much as their schedules allow. Both have met with dietitians at Jewish Weight Management Center in Evendale and are learning to adapt the diet plan to meet the 1,300 calories a day required by the plan.
Mr. Manigan's schedule hasn't had him at home for a meal yet, but he's learning to choose foods that fall within his 1,800 calories a day limit, including black bean soup, yogurt and plenty of fresh vegetables.
The combination of healthy diet and exercise is having an effect, all three say.
I feel great! Ms. Chinn exclaims. I'm not hungry like I was. I've been sticking to it pretty good.
