Our Fearless Predictions for Cincinnati games

By Dave Schutte
The Cincinnati Enquirer

        • Winton Woods (10-0, 6-0 FAVC) vs. Anderson (7-3, 6-1 FAVC)

WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today, Anderson High School, 7560 Forest Rd., Anderson Township.

WHAT TO WATCH: Although Winton Woods won the first meeting 76-46 on December 8 at home, Anderson is an improved team. Chris Norwell has developed into a potent scorer (20.8 ppg) and Marcus Thompson (13.0 ppg) also is a big contributor.

Ranked No.1 in the Enquirer's coaches poll for the first time, Winton Woods counters with a balanced scoring attack that features Robert Hite (18 ppg), P.J. Mills (15 ppg), Byron Fields (11 ppg) and DeForrest Riley (14 ppg).

The Warriors' only weakness is rebounding. If Norwell (6-foot-6) and company can exploit Winton Woods on the inside, the Redskins could pull off upset.

        PICK: Winton Woods.

        • Middletown (6-6, 5-3 GMC) vs. Oak Hills (8-3, 7-1 GMC)

WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m., today, Oak Hills High School, 3200 Ebenezer Rd., Bridgetown.

WHAT TO WATCH: When Middletown comes to play, there's not a better team in the Greater Miami Conference.

But the Middies have been inconsistent. Kelvin Moss (13.1 ppg) leads a balanced attack that includes Leroy Adams (10.3 ppg) and Darrell Hunter (11.9 ppg).

Mike Lee (13.8 ppg) and Tim Oliverio (11.2 ppg) are the sparkplugs for the Highlanders, tied with Hamilton for first place in the GMC.

Oak Hills is coming off a double overtime victory over LaSalle.

        PICK: Oak Hills

        • Clermont Northeastern (10-2, 4-0 SBC) vs. Georgetown (6-4, 4-1 SBC)

WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m., today, Georgetown High School, 987 Mt. Orab Pike, Georgetown.

WHAT TO WATCH: A sellout crowd is expected for this battle between the Southern Buckeye Conference's first-place teams.

Undefeated in the SBC American Division, coach Ken Tracy's Clermont Northeastern team features a balanced scoring attack led Ian Lafferty (15.1 ppg).

However, the Rockets also are strong defensively which was one of the major ingredients that led to an 18-5 record last season.

The one-two combination of Craig Waits 14 ppg) and Ryan Seesholtz (14.8 ppg) has carried Georgetown to the top in the SBC National, but CNE's superior height and defense could be the difference.

        PICK: CNE.

        • Springboro (9-1, 6-0 MML North) vs. Middletown Fenwick (7-3, 4-0 MML South)

WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today, Middletown Fenwick High School, 3800 Manchester Rd., Middletown.

WHAT TO WATCH: This is another matchup between first-place teams.

Middletown Fenwick is always tough to beat at home.

Matt Burns (11.6 ppg) is Fenwick's leading scorer but Charlie Martin (9.1 ppg), Tony McCormick (9 ppg) and Joe Kreke (7.3 ppg) are close behind.

Springboro relies heavily on Jason (15 ppg) and Damon Francis (9.9 ppg), along with Drew Benseler (8.7 ppg). The Panthers' size and depth advantage could be the difference.

        PICK: Springboro.

        • Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (10-1, 7-0 MVC) vs. Summit Country Day (4-5, 3-3 MVC)

WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. today, Summit Country Day, 2161 Grandin Rd.

WHAT TO WATCH: Winning the Miami Valley Conference for the first time is within reach for CHCA.

CHCA is coming off a 50-49 loss to Taylor.

The Eagles are a balanced team with the trio of Jay Moreland, Luke Trenz and John Taylor the primary scoring threats.

Summit's Nick Dyer (18 ppg), a 6-foot-4, 225-pound junior center, has dominated on the inside, avering 18 points a game.

        PICK: CHCA.
